Shared the story of the matriarchs in my family at the 2018 NGO Beijing International Dialogue--"Women and People's Livelihood." Pictured here is my great grandmother, who did not know how to read and write and spent most of her life doing manual labor. Her daughter, my grandmother, learnt how to read and write in her 20's and thus had more access to information and opportunities. My mother and father, though they never earned a degree, invested heavily in my education. Thanks to this generational progress, I eventually ended up at Yale University. Many women in the world today are still living the way my great grandma lived and in order to help them and their daughters progress, we need give them access to education and opportunities.
